18 • Transformation Through Training • Issue No: 12 • May 2019 2024. JFTC has been tasked to continue its involvement to ensure continuity of efforts and prepare newly assigned personnel for their Train, Advise and Assist mission in Afghanistan. Nevertheless, due to a heavy workload from 2019 onwards the number of training events will be reduced to three per year. The reduction, however, will not affect training effectiveness, and the number of trainees is expected to grow further. Future training events will combine training for Resolute Support Headquarters and two or even more TAACs within one timeframe. Highly experienced personnel and an optimized training structure will allow JFTC to handle up to five separate main training groups at a time. Restructuring of the Resolute Support Pre- Deployment Training will open training capacity for additional NATO mission Pre-Deployment Training, such as for the newly formed NATO Mission Iraq (NMI). When in 2018 the Alliance decided to increase its engagement in Iraq, JFTC was automatically tasked to set up and execute a respective Pre- Deployment Training course for this new capacity building mission. JFTC experts had already been incorporated into the planning phase and supported the development of this capacity building mission with their experience and knowledge from the very beginning. Throughout all levels JFTC’s advice and assistance was well appreciated. In December 2018, even before NMI reached its Full Operational Capability, the future training team set foot on the ground in Baghdad and conducted an initial fact finding for the first Pre-Deployment Training in spring 2019. This close liaison with NATO Mission Iraq will guarantee a solid preparation and an up-to-date training content for new members of the mission who will deploy to Iraq in mid- 2019. By incorporating this new training series JFTC underlines its unique position within NATO current mission preparation training. ■
